Anglo-Portuguese Cultural Relations

This Programme aims to help projects that promote contemporary Portuguese culture in the UK and the Republic of Ireland (British cultural projects in Portugal are the responsibility of the British Council). ‘Cultural relations’ are taken to include activities in the arts, education and social change.

Atlantic Waves 2008
London International Festival of Exploratory Music
The Foundation’s increasingly successful festival is in its eighth year, featuring innovative international collaborations and outstanding musicianship. The Festival is held at various venues in London during November (www.atlanticwaves.org). The Foundation also publishes the Atlantic Waves Festival Sampler CD and the Exploratory Music From Portugal CD series.

Grant Support
Grants are available for:

  • activities and events concerned with Portugal or containing Portuguese elements – its language, culture, people;

  • cultural and educational interaction between British or Irish and Portuguese people, which may include research and development visits to Portugal by professionals (festival and/or arts venue directors, managers, producers, etc.) who are interested in presenting Portuguese arts in the UK and Ireland;

  • the educational, cultural and social needs of the Portuguese immigrant communities (but not individual Portuguese immigrants or visitors).
