How to Apply

Before applying for a grant please check the specific requirements of the relevant programme. Please read the list of exclusions and bear in mind that the Foundation’s grants rarely exceed £15,000. When to Apply

Initial enquiries At least three months before the starting date of the project, and before sending a full application, please submit a brief outline of the potential application using the Initial Enquiry Form (Word download). Please email the completed form to the appropriate programme.

Application deadlines If invited to proceed, deadlines for the receipt of full applications for consideration at the 2008 Trustee Meetings are:
March Meeting (deadline 8 February);
July Meeting (deadline 23 May);
November Meeting (deadline 10 October).

What to Include in a Grant Application

Please apply in writing to the appropriate Programme Director. We have no standard application form, nor a specified format or length, though succinctness is welcomed.

Please include the following information:

  • a brief history of the organisation and its current work;
  • a project description including the exact purpose for which the proposed grant is sought;
  • a timetable for the project;
  • the amount required, with details of how the budget has been arrived at;
  • information about other sources of income, those that are firm commitments as well as those you are exploring;
  • information about the aims and functions of your organisation and about its legal status – if your organisation is a registered charity, please send us its charity registration number, if not please send us your Memorandum and Articles of Association (if you are uncertain about the status of your organisation, please consult the Foundation);
  • your latest annual report and audited accounts.
