Exclusions

The UK Branch of the Foundation gives grants only for proposals of a charitable kind, from registered charities or similar not-for-profit organisations. It deals only with grant applications from organisations in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland and only with projects which benefit people in these countries.

Please note we do not give grants for

  • Housing or the purchase, construction, repair or furnishing of buildings
  • Equipment, including vehicles or musical instruments
  • Basic services

  • Student grants or the education, training fees, maintenance or medical costs of individual applicants
  • Establishing funds for scholarships or loans
  • Teaching or research posts or visiting fellowships

  • Commercial publications
  • UK cultural or other work in Portugal

  • Scientific research
  • Medicine or related therapies
  • Religious activities

  • Sports
  • Holidays of any sort
  • Animal welfare

We never make loans or retrospective grants, nor help to pay off deficits or loans, nor can we remedy the withdrawal or reduction of statutory funding.

We do not give grants in response to any large capital, endowment or widely distributed appeal.
