Cultural Understanding

To help improve people’s perception of each other by providing opportunities for interaction through culture and between cultures…

2010 partnerships and initiatives include:

  • we will support one major annual international arts project in a UK region (the final year of support for Liverpool Biennial) and two high-profile interactive projects (the development of the Photographers’ Gallery Olympics project and the Dialogue Café international network) that seek to connect people of different cultures;

  • we will support strategic arts initiatives which promote new international arts practice, particularly work from Portugal that has had insufficient exposure in the UK, implementing year two of our three-year visual arts strategy, and supporting the City of London Festival’s Lusophone theme in 2010;

  • undertaking initiatives to promote literature in translation for adults and children, primarily Lusophone, but also in collaboration with other international literary agencies;

  • developing our thinking around new areas for intervention specifically looking at the issues of migration and the need for greater cultural understanding.
